Hawaii is known for catching large Blue Marlin year round. But we also catch other billfish in Hawaii. Black Marlin, Stripe Marlin, Spearfish, Sailfish, and Swordfish. We use lures or live bait to catch them.
Ahi Tuna
There are several tuna species in Kona. Ahi, Big Eye, Albacore, and Skip Jack tuna. Skip Jack tuna is what we use for bait, but is a fun catch on light tackle. The Ahi can be found in Kona year round. But is best in the summer months. Albacore is also caught during the summer months at night using squid or sardines for bait.
Ono
![]() Another name for Ono is Wahoo. The Ono fishing is good in the spring and summer months. But you also catch them around floating debris. We troll for Ono in about 40 fathoms of water. You can really get into the Ono down towards south point. If you do an over night charter you will see quite a few.
Mahi Mahi
Mahi Mahi's range from 5 - 70 lbs. The average is about 20 lbs. We usually find them in current lines or around some floating debris. We also catch them in the blind . Best techniques to catch them is with lures or bait.
