South Point
If you want action and beautiful scenery then this is the charter for you.  South Point is located 50 miles south of Kailua-Kona.  We offer 2 or 3 day trips.  4 people max.

Typical Trip
You start off leaving Honokohau Harbor around sunrise the first day.  I troll for marlin in the deep water for the first 30 miles.  This usually takes about 4 hours.  Then we head in to 40 fathoms of water and troll for ono, mahi, and small tuna the rest of the way to South Point .
Once at South Point, I do a combination of trolling and bottom dropping.  Just depends on which fishery will give us more action.  We drop to the bottom for red snapper, amberjack, and giant trevally.  South Point is full of big bottom fish.
When it gets close to sunset I head for a protected bay and throw the anchor for the night.   This is a good time to go for a swim.
We will BBQ and eat our days fresh catch and get ready for night fishing.
At night I will put out a drop light and that will attract opelu (bait).  You can catch the opelu and use them for live bait for giant trevally and sharks.  The night offers great trevally fishing (5-150 lbs).  Pound for pound they are one of the best fighting fish on the bottom.
We usually start trolling again the next morning at sunrise. I like to make the first pass on the point before other boats show up.   Early morning is a great time to catch the ono.  We troll for ono, mahi, and tuna until its time to go home or anchor up again for the night.
When we arrive back in Kona we will fillet a couple of fish for you to take back to your condo or you can eat them at Pancho and Lefty's.

South Point Charters

South Point is the most southerly point of the United States.  From the shoreline to the thousand fathom ledge there is some of the most incredible volcanic structures that you may ever experience fishing in your lifetime.  Some of the bottom fishing has never been offered to people on a charter boat.   World Record class size Jacks; Giant Trevally,  Amberjack, Blue Fin Trevally, Almaco Jack, Golden Trevally, along with other exotic species.  With some of the current directions playing a big role on the big game fishing. The bait is usually always near the bottom. The bottom structure is steep drop-offs in most areas but there are sandy banks and canyons along with pinnacles and shallow water reef areas which makes overnight and multiday charters an experience of a lifetime. You have the opportunity to do such a versatile game plan on your ultimate day of fishing.  You can be one of the few people to have caught a Billfish, Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Ono,  Trevally,  Amberjack, Snapper, and other exotic species in one day. There is even the extreme fishing at night where you can catch Broadbill Swordfish, Yellow Fin Tuna, Big Eye Tuna, and world record size Albacore. All sharks are released but can be huge to say it lightly.  The sharks you may catch are Tiger Sharks,  Mako, Thresher, Hammerhead, Oceanic White Tip,  Black tip, Blue Sharks and Sandbar Sharks. This is a fishing trip that can only be experienced rather than discribed.
