Hey chuck,
Just wanted to say thanks for a great trip. We made a long run offshore, but it paid off. We ended up with 3 Mahi, 2 of them were nice sized. My wife ended up with the jackpot fish, hooked with a small popper on your light outfit. It gave her a pretty nice battle. Rick had to back down on it to keep it from taking too much line. It was pretty funny. We also got one on a live skipjack-- I was surprised a Mahi that size ate it!
Great trip, tell Jim and Rick I said thanks again.
Here are a few photos, in case you want some material to post on the web. The last is a picture of the Mahi, fresh off the grill at Rosas. Thanks again!

Chuck:
Kenji left Kona this morning. He wanted to thank you for a memorable fishing trip. He was particularly impressed with that large Ulua. The photo with Ulua will be his treasure. He was also awed by two Blue marlins which were ,of course, his first experience. Yellowfin tuna was also awesome. The only missed target was a large Kahala. He wanted to come back for revenge (?) ASAP.
I am sending several photos which Midori took during the trip.
Thanks.

Chuck.
Thanks for an awesome fishing trip. My family and I enjoyed being out on your wonderful charter and you and Bill made the experience perfect for our family. The trip was made even more memorable by tagging and releasing such a beautiful blue marlin. Once the fish hit the lure and I jumped in the chair, I knew it was going to be a good fight. I didn't realize the size of her until we got her reeled in after about an hour fight and I saw her up close - I think you estimated her weight at about 400 lbs and 8 feet long - a magnificient fish indeed !
I've attached four pictures for you and possibly your webpage.
We'll definitely contact you for another memorable trip when we're in Kona next !

Good evening Chuck,
Thanks again for a great day of fishing on the 19th. We are already looking at our calendar for some dates for next year. I was just wondering if you had a chance to look at the video footage of my son's fish and if it might be possible for you to email the highlites to us. Please let me know when you get a moment.
Have a nice evening.

Chuck: thanks so much for setting us up for Fishing on your boat on Friday.
What a day!
We made an early troll right out of the marina, then Rocky headed us further offshore in search of action. We had a few quick strikes that woke us up early, so Rocky looped us back on the spot and our third strike stuck. Susan was first up, strapped in the chair, and after a short and exciting fight, we released a Blue Marlin. (see picture of Kerry doing the release).
Things quieted down for a bit, so it was out to the buoy and the search was on for floating debris. Rocky and Kerry worked hard for our party all day, scanning the water for the right spot. We were virtually alone on the water, as the other boats camped on jumping baitfish without much success.
Then Rocky trolled us to a great floater patch and it was "game on"! We immediately slammed into the Shibi with a successful triple header - Kerry was all over the stern, hoisting them in the boat.
Our day just kept getting better, as Rocky broke out the light rod and had all of us into Mahi's and more Tuna on a surface plug. Really a kick seeing the fish swirl and slam that lure right on top.
Fishing was really great -so we all opted to extend our day (thanks, Chuck, for a very reasonable price on extending our full day into "last boat on the water" while we worked this spot over and over. Non stop action and tired arms as we took turns on the light rod.
Finally, we all ran out of energy and started the long troll home.
...with the sun setting as the Kona airport came in sight, we finished our extended day with a final strike, hook, play and land of a nice Mahi Mahi to close out andoutstanding trip.
Many thanks for a great day, and to you and your crew for all of your aloha spirit
Kirk and Susan

Captain Chuck,
Thanks again for the fantastic fishing charter. Here’s a picture of the Tuna with you, Rocky, and my 18 year old son Ray.
I’ve also included a few other pictures from the trip that may make good advertising.
Greg,
I’ve included you in this email to establish contact with Captain Chuck Wigzell. He runs the boat named “Hooked Up” out Kona and provides a very family friendly fun and exciting day of fishing. I’ve asked Chuck to contact you directly for future fishing referrals.
Greg’s office phone number is 808-881-3072.
All the best to you and I hope we go fishing again sometime in the future,

Chuck,
What can I say about our day besides Jim and Rocky were exceptional from the
minute we got on the boat until we got off at the harbor. For Geoffrey,
Jeremy, my wife Lauren and myself it was the best day fishing we have ever
had in the islands. The weather was fantastic and who would have thought we
would find fish hanging out around a pile of lost rope.
We just arrived back at the house in a large lighting storm with very hard
rain but we will be heading back to town for dinner at the restaurant.
Hope you are having a great Christmas Day!!!!!!!! As we definitely are
Sincerely
Chris

Captain Chuck, Thank you for helping me catch a marlin. I still get excited just watching the video. I will never forget that experience. It was something I never thought I would be able to do. We will be back next year fishing with you again. Also I went on trip advisor and did my review. Also I will give your name out to everyone I know who is coming to Hawaii. Again, thank you so much for all your help and for a truely great experience! Mahalo! Gayle DeVoe

Hi Chuck;
I just wanted to say thanks for the 3rd awesome fishing trip in a row. Last year I was lucky enough to catch a 95 lb. sailfish and Russ caught a 180 lb. blue marlin, and we got several mai mai, ono, and tuna on the south point 2 day trip. this year I was lucky enough to catch a 300 lb. blue marlin and Gayle caught a 150 lb. blue marlin. what a trip it was. You, your boat, and the crew is the best thanks again, Barry Roberts

Thanks Chuck and Kerry for a fun afternoon. So glad we caught our<BR>dinner. Your brother treated us royally. Great dinner.<BR>Amy Jackson
8/01/10 Hi Chuck,
Well, this word of thanks is way overdue. I really don’t know where to begin; when you book a trip with a captain and crew that’s on the other side of the world, it’s somewhat of a crap shoot as to how things will end up. When you book 4 trips, you’re putting all your eggs in one basket as well. Needless to say, I was damn lucky to have decided up on Hooked Up! Where to start….I guess the boat. It’s nice and big, comfortable, and spotless. Every outfit was tournament ready; no corners cut anywhere. Simply the best of everything, tackle-wise that is. Better yet were you and Bevan. Bevan was, without question, the very best 1st mate, deck hand, second captain, I have ever been lucky enough to fish with. Your web site nailed it; he’s more knowledgeable than many captains I’ve been around, and he is a very cool customer when all hell’s breaking loose in the form of a triple ono strike or a marlin jumping around. Maybe his greatest attribute is the fact he is such a pleasure to be with. He always had everyone’s comfort in the forefront of his mind. His love of sport fishing and his never give up attitude made me feel fortunate to be on a boat with him. Really, that’s how I felt. As for you Chuck, well, you get very high marks as well. I was hoping against hope for my first marlin in 20 years, and not only did you put me on that, but you threw in a mahi, an ahi, and I think 15 ono, all in one day. That trip to South Point is burned into my memory; maybe the best day of fishing I’ve ever had. For someone that loves fishing as much as I do, sincere thanks for everything.
Give my best to Bevan, and wish him well as he travels around the Pacific catching dream fish. Best to Jim also; I’ve never seen anyone so happy to just “be there” when he worked the trip to South Point. I’m mailing a few pictures from our big day. There’s a shot of you holding that beast GT that I was so happy YOU caught!
Hope we get back one day, but if we don’t, at least I’ll know that I got to see how great Kona can be.
Stay well.
Jon

Hi Chuck
Thanks again for a good day on the 27th. It was great landing the big yellowfin tuna and thanks to Bevan for his help.
It was a pity we didn't hook a marlin. My brother saw in the next day's West Hawaii paper that you had hooked 4 the previous week -such is fishing.
Thanks again and if / when we return to the Big Island we will be out with you again.

Capt. Chuck,
My wife, friend, son and I were guests on your boat in june for a half day fishing trip. I was fortunate to catch a short billed spearfish and my son cayle caught a 12.5 ft 610 lb blue marlin. I have told anyone who is headed to Hawaii about you, your crew, and your boat and how your expertise helped me fulfill a life long dream. You see i am a parapelegic and never thought I would be able to do something like this and had resigned myself to watching my son, wife and friend fish. Although mine wasn't the biggest fish to me it was a monster. I live in Wyoming and up until june the biggest thing I had ever caught was a five pound catfish lol so you can imagine my pride in the spear fish i caught. You made accomadations on your boat for me and help me to catch my "monster" lol
My son cayle got his bill he had mounted of the huge blue marlin he caught and proudly displays it in his living room.
Other than my wedding day and the birth of my children that was the greatest day of my life. I want you and your crew to know that I will always be thankful to you for the patience, expertise, and understanding you and your crew displayed that day in allowing me to fulfil a dream i had since watching Curt Gowdy catch a marlin on tv.
I am expecting my mount to arrive in the next month or two which I put on my brag wall and tell story of how I caught it to anyone who will listen. thanks Chuck!!!!
Yours Truly,
Vere Cooper

![]() Dear Captain Chuck, I am witting to tell you thank you for making my husband's 60th birthday the best ever. His dream was to catch a Marlin and he did it thanks to you! We booked your South Point overnight charter and had the time of our life's. It was so much fun. The scenery was beautiful, the food was great, we got to see whales, a shark, dolphins..... and the fishing was unbelievable! Barry caught a Sailfish, Russ caught his Marlin and they also caught all the Mahi Mahi, Ono, Tuna and other fish that I do not remember the names of. At times we had fish on two poles and a just caught fish on the deck with the livebox full and the cooler getting full. It was just like you watch on a fishing show. We laughed a lot and will always remember this great trip. This was our second year fishing with you and we will be back next year and every year after. Paula will never forget seeing the 1st large ono Russ caught and I will never forget the flying fish and the dolphin who came up right next to the boat and ate the fish he was chasing while we were night fishing . You worked so hard to make sure we caught fish and to make sure we had a great trip..... we did! THANK YOU! I would recommend Hooked Up and this trip to everyone. We have a lot of great pictures and will email you some. Again, thank you for making my husbands dream come true. Gayle DeVoe

Hi Chuck,
Just wanted to thank you for the great trip a couple of weeks back--had a ball. It was nice to be on a boat captained by a pro, which was spotless to boot. We had a great dinner at the restaurant that night---the fresh fish just added to it too.
Please pass on our regards to Sean as well, in fact if you have his email and could send I'll do it myself.
We have a couple of sets of friends who may be heading for Kona this fall---we'll try to convince them they need to do some fishing and point them your way.
Thanks again---it was great to meet you and spend the time on your boat.

Hi Chuck
I just arrived back home to my “ Paradise” downunder in Hobart ,Tasmania.
Thank you for the great day’s fishing last Thursday 6 August 2009.
4 strikes becoming 4 hook ups becoming 4 Blue Marlin to your boat and 4 tag and releases is a perfect score!
My fishing mate’s jealous comment when I phone text him on your boat at the time, was “stop bragging, get the lures back in and catch a big one” - but a fish, is a fish, is a fish, is a fish, and we had fun!
I’ve been around game fishing long enough to know it’s not just luck.
It all reflects on the skippers preparation and attention to detail, from the sharpness of your hooks, maintenance of your boat and fishing gear, decisions on where to go, what speed, what to troll, choice and placement of your lures, to crew work, concentration etc.eEtc. - and you are very focused!
I'm really used to stand up fishing with short-stroke outfits, full black magic rod bucket/ harnesses, and 30 and 50 reels and a maximum of Penn 70s with 80lb line, which are much sweeter to handle, but I understand you have to be ready for 1000 pounders and I’m catching 200 and hoping for 400.
Which reminds me I forgot to ask you at the time if you speed up to set the hook when marlin strike? – everything happened so quickly and I couldn’t observe what you were doing at the time.
I’ve only had 2 strikes trolling for striped marlin off the east coast of Tasmania in all my years of fishing here, and couldn’t hook up.
You were right about Joe Yee’s age early 80s – I left a Blue water fishing magazine for you with an article about him.
Thank Bevan and his girl friend for me. .
Don’t forget my invitation to come fishing for southern bluefin tuna at my special spot in Tasmania - Pedra Branca Rock – 44 degrees S /147.5degrees E nearly the bottom of the world and best time is March April May June.
Thanks again for the great day and let me know of any significant catches you make in the future if you have time.
Cheers
Bob

Chuck, hope your boat is running okay, especially with the tournament this week. Just want you to thank you for referring me and my family to Bret and Shawn on the Night Runner. Our 1/2 day trip was more than I ever expected. My T&R 300 Lb Marlin was, and still is, a thrill of a lifetime. Even the family had an experience they are still talking about. Bret and Shawn did a great job on the hook up and coaching me throughout the fight. Could not have done it without them. Hope when I come back I get a chance to go out with you. Again, thanks for setting me up with the thrill of a lifetime.
One very happy fisherman,

Really enjoyed fishing with you, Rocky and Sean yesterday. It was all that we had hoped for and more. Hopefully you got the pictures of the marlin that we took yesterday in the e-mail my wife sent earlier.

I had such a blast, it convinced me that I need to go again before I move this summer.
Thanks again for the great trip yesterday.

Just wanted to send you a big thank you for the great day on the water. We all saw action and that's we we asked for. Sometimes you tie into a big one, some times you don't. It was a good day to be on the water.
I also want to send a big thank you to you and Beverly for the great meals at Poncho & Lefty's. It quickly became our favorite on the island. We ate our way across the menu on 3 of the 5 nights we were there. Sherrie wants me to ask Beverly for the recipe for her Tortilla soup. My wife makes a version but your restaurant has the best we've tasted.
All the best to you.

P.S. To Denise at Bite Me--thanks for lining us up with Chuck. He does a

We had a great trip on April 9th. Since I was taking my daughter Megan
along and wanted more action and was less concerned about a chance at a
marlin, Chuck planned a trip accordingly. We did some trolling early,
but had a great time working a hot ahi bite near one of the buoys. We
had one triple and multiple doubles. In an hour and a half we lost
track of how many ahi and aku we caught after 20 or so, but we totally
wore my daughter out and she slept the whole troll back to the marina.
Bill the mate was a great help to Megan, helping with her pole and
handling fish.

Aloha, Chuck!
First of all, Mahalo nui for the great day of fishing yesterday on
the "Hooked Up". A special thank you also to mate, Rocky.
We had a lot of fun catching a variety of fish: skip jack, yellow tail,
amberjack and, of course, the Alua (Giant Trevaly). I have attached
a photo of you and Rocky holding up the 80# trophy. My arms and legs
are still remembering the 20-25 minute struggle to land this
marvelous fish. Mahalo nui loa!

We're sorry to say we won't be in Hawaii next year (son getting married in

Chuck,
Testimonial for your charter.
Capt. Chuck,
Thank you for the best time we've ever had in Kona.
I spent several hours on the internet searching for a charter service. I found your charter prices for the size of your boat to be "the best deal in town".
Little did I know that we would be eating several meals of fresh Tuna. But the highlight of the full day charter was the 8'7" Blue Stripped Marlin that I caught. What a thrill that was!
Once again, I would like thank you and your staff for the great time on the waters of Kona.
Sincerely,

It was a time of supreme happiness for me.
