Hooked Up Sportfishing ... Kona, Hawaii
Not only has Captain Chuck Wigzell been successful in the marlin tournaments in Kona but he has also been very successfully in tagging billfish. In 2008 and 2009 NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration) recognized Captain Chuck Wigzell as the captain that tagged the most billfish. The Ulua Tagging Project also recognized Captain Chuck Wigzell as the number two captain for tagging the Jacks in 2009.
Captain Chuck Wigzell -
I am the owner and the operator of the Hooked Up. I moved to Hawaii with my parents when I was 13 years old in 1985 from Oregon when they opened up Pancho and Lefty's restaurant.
I started my fishing career out of Kona in 1990 during the summer months while I was going to college. I fished my dad's boat. During those summer months we (brother and I) supplied the restaurant with fresh fish. We also took people out fishing that I hustled from the restaurant for gas money. We actually did quite well and this is how I kind of got started in the fishing business.
My wife Beverley and I graduated college in 1995 from Southern Oregon University. I received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and also got my captains license. I have been a captain and fishing for a living out of Kona since 1995. Beverley Received a Bachelor of Science in Business and she also has a Master of Arts in Education. She is currently a 3rd grade school teacher at Waikoloa Elementary. We have two kids Zac and Hana who are 13 and 11.
"When you book a fishing trip with me, you will fish with me. I am not a activity desk trying to make a hidden commission. I do not book multiple boats and send you off with different captains. My goal is to give you a good fishing experience. I always strive to run a first class, friendly, and affordable charter service". I don't forget who is paying for the boat. There will be no yelling or screaming and making you feel bad while you are angling or if a fish gets off. Your paying for the charter and you deserve to have a good time. If for some reason I have to cancel your trip do to bad weather or mechanical problems or any other reason I will refund 100% of your money. If I can help you with your vacation plans or need help with anything feel free to contact me. I will recommend or arrange any service that I don't personally provide.
My family owns Pancho and Lefty's in downtown Kona. Which I supply them with fresh fish. So if your hungry or thirsty we have great Mexican food and margaritas. They will even cook your catch when you fish with me and you will receive a 20% discount off of your fish dinners.
Meet the Crews
Captain Rocky Gauron
Rocky comes to Kona from December - April to escape the winter months of New Hampshire. Rocky and his family own Gauron fishing Parties out of Hampton Beach. Rocky is a third generation fisherman. He grew up on his father's party boat. He knows the charter business very well. He is very friendly and professional. Great to fish with. This year will be Rocky's sixth winter with me. Rocky is an expert when it comes to bottom fishing. Back home he fishes for Cod, Pollack and Hadick. He also does some commercial fishing for the Giant Blue Fin Tuna that are off his coast in the summer months.

My brother Jim Wigzell also owns a charter boat in Kona "Go Get Em". When he is not fishing his own boat he crews with me when Rocky is gone. He also runs one of my parents restaurants "Rosa's Cantina" and is the KonaWaena High School golf coach. Jim has his teaching PGA card. Before moving back to Kona a few years ago he was a assistant pro at country club in Florida. Where he developed a very good kids junior golf program. So on the boat he is very good with the kids and family's. Also he has caught and weighed a bigger Blue Marlin then me so far in 1999. It weighed 1040 pounds. My biggest is 975.
